GAMBIA SMILING COAST OF AFRICA.

The Gambia is the smallest country in Africa and one of the poorest countries in the world.

There is a lot of unemployment among its people. And if you have a disability, life is even more difficult.

Being challenged with a disability in the Gambia comes with lots of stigmatization and discrimination from society, family, and friends. Our foundation recently did a survey which shows that 90% of people with disabilities in the Gambia must beg on the streets or is depending on family members for their daily needs. Especially young people with disabilities are dreaming to contribute and participate in the development of their communities, are ready to take their destiny into their own hands, reclaim their dignity and respect as everyone in society.

The government has a participation law, which unfortunately is not yet 100% fulfilling its aims and objectives, where companies and institutions are encouraged to employ people with a disability.

This is where Small Steps 2 Success comes into the picture. Our foundation is committed to guiding people with disabilities, step by step, to find a place to work, give them the proper training and eventually become self-sustainable.

Small Steps 2 Success Gambia is supported by Small Steps 2 Success Netherlands.
